How to Measure Your Bible or Book for a Custom Leather Cover
At Ozark Mountain Leather, every Bible cover and book cover is handmade to fit your specific Bible or book. Because each cover is custom made, accurate measurements are extremely important to ensure the best fit possible.
Whether you're ordering a custom leather Bible cover, journal cover, or book cover, following these simple guidelines will help us create a cover that fits beautifully.
Why Accurate Measurements Matter
A custom leather cover that is too tight may be difficult to use, while a cover that is too loose may not fit securely. By providing accurate measurements, you help us create a cover that protects your Bible or book while allowing for comfortable use.
Our goal is to make a cover that fits well right from the start.
Step 1: Use a Ruler Instead of a Tape Measure
Always use a solid ruler whenever possible.
Tape measures are flexible and can sometimes provide inaccurate measurements. The metal tip on a tape measure can also bend over time, causing small errors that may affect the final fit.
A ruler provides the most accurate and consistent measurements.
Step 2: Measure the Bible or Book Yourself
Please measure your actual Bible or book rather than relying on measurements found online.
Measurements listed on websites are often incorrect and may represent:
-
The shipping box dimensions
-
Approximate sizes
-
Older editions with different dimensions
Even different printings of the same Bible can vary slightly in size.
For the best fit, always measure the Bible or book that will go inside the cover.
Step 3: Measure Height, Width, and Thickness
Using the graphic provided, measure your Bible or book in three places:
Height: Measure from the bottom edge to the top edge of the book.
Width: Measure from the front cover to the back cover while the book is closed.
Thickness: Measure the spine thickness while the book is closed.
Please provide all measurements in inches.
Step 4: Measure to the Nearest 1/8 Inch
Please record your measurements to the nearest 1/8 inch.
We do not recommend measuring smaller than 1/8 inch because tiny measurement differences can occur depending on the ruler used and how the book is held during measuring.
Examples:
-
8 1/8 inches
-
8 1/4 inches
-
8 3/8 inches
-
8 1/2 inches
Step 5: Round Up When Between Measurements
If your measurement falls between two 1/8-inch marks, round up to the next 1/8 inch.
Providing slightly larger measurements helps ensure a comfortable fit and allows room for natural variation.
Common Measurement Mistakes to Avoid
To help ensure the best fit possible, avoid these common mistakes:
-
Using online dimensions instead of measuring your Bible
-
Measuring with a flexible tape measure
-
Forgetting to include the thickness of the Bible
-
Measuring an old Bible when ordering for a different one
-
Providing measurements smaller than 1/8 inch increments
Frequently Asked Questions
Should I leave extra room in my measurements?
No. Please provide the exact measurements of your Bible or book. We make adjustments during production to create a proper fit.
Can I use measurements from Amazon or the publisher's website?
No. Online measurements are often inaccurate or may refer to packaging dimensions rather than the actual book.
Do different editions of the same Bible have different sizes?
Yes. Even Bibles with the same title and translation can vary in size between editions and printings.
What if I accidentally provide incorrect measurements?
Since each cover is custom made specifically for your Bible or book, accurate measurements are extremely important. If you realize there is an error after placing your order, please contact us as soon as possible.
